The Hunt For an Apartment

The time is coming for my boyfriend and I to move into an apartment together. With both of us eight hours apart on opposite sides of the state, it can be a bit difficult for us to find a place that works for us. I plan to move to Lubbock where Ethan is going to school, and I plan to go to graduate school at Texas Tech University. So, from eight hours away, I need to find an apartment that the two of us can afford with both of us being college students and starting to live on our own for the first time.

Here are a few tips that have helped me not completely freak out while trying to find a place of our own:

Pinterest has helped tremendously with different articles and tips for finding the apartment of our dreams. From articles about what you need to find the right apartment, checklists of what an apartment needs, and decorating it to make your place feel like home, Pinterest has a lot of helpful tips to get started on apartment hunting.

Apartment Finder is an online catalog of different apartments in different areas. This website doesn’t just help you find apartments for Lubbock. You can search in different cities around the U.S. Put in the area you want to live in, the amount of beds and bathrooms, and find the different types of places in the area that could become the right place for you.

Social media networks like Buzzfeed, Cracked.com and the YouTube series How to Adult have different articles and videos on the funny yet serious things that one needs to do to find an apartment. Buzzfeed has a funny article about things that you need to do when you search for an apartment.

Cracked.com posts articles like Buzzfeed but also talks about the hardships of moving and putting a hilarious light on it.

How to Adult is a YouTube channel that talks about every topic out there, from explaining student loans to making a good cup of coffee. This channel helps people slowly make their way to becoming an adult, and it even has topics of searching for a house and the steps you need to take to do that.

Finding an apartment is hard and dedicating work, but once you find the place that is right for you, you can slowly make any house a home.
