This wonderful human is someone who many in America know nothing about, he was one of the biggest Philanthropist from Pakistan and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. The man I am describing is Abdul Sattar Edhi. He practically created an enormous charity organization (Edhi Foundation) with only about $500. His work made people see him as a national hero for the humanitarian work he accomplished.
Some of his work includes creating nationwide humanitarian centers that offered lifesaving services, he took part in creating the worlds largest volunteer ambulance service that included 1,800 ambulances, 28 rescue boats and 2 airplanes for emergencies. These services saved about 50,000 babies by setting up an orphanage.
At as of today, there are over 300 centers across Pakistan that provide people with the services they need. Services include shelters for women and the elderly to a hotline for missing persons. The reason why I am writing about this man and his life work is because I think it’s incredibly important to learn and know about people who have made such an impact to a country.
Edhi passed away on June 8, 2016 and was given a state funeral where he was recognized for the incredible humble human he was.  He was  not only a humanitarian that focused on giving back but also a wise inspirational man that had wonderful quotes.
I find it incredible that there are people out there that had the capability of being monetarily wealthy or take advantage but, don’t because of how humble and caring they are. I think we are sadly lacking people with this kind of mindset now a days, it seems that people are doing humanitarian work in order to benefit themselves and not their neighbors or the people around them.
