This is in honor of my late fathers’ birthday that just passed on the 14th. He was a man born on the day of love, so therefore he was made of it.
So that I won’t forget you
I have a shrine placed in a corner.
It is filled with recollections of you.
There’s a snow globe adorned with a picture of us.
With every shake, tiny flakes fall to the soft tune of a lullaby.
There’s a bracelet with your name etched across.
With every caress, the tips of my fingers carefully trace your past identity.
There’s a stuffed puppy you once gave me.
With every chance I get, I hold it close wishing it were you instead.
There’s a keepsake bought long ago.
With every beat in my heart, I cherish it because it was ours.
This collection reminds me of the happy and the sad.
Of both your sweet smile and the scars that littered your body.
Of both your contagious laughter and the pain that you once suffered.
It reminds me
that you’ve left me.
Never to be seen, heard, or felt again.
