America— as we’ve seen this past week— is a place of much controversy. This past election has shown us all, regardless of who we voted for, just how divided we are as a nation. With issues ranging from xenophobia to racism, homophobia and Islamaphobia (to name a few), there’s a lot to keep up with in terms of being knowledgeable about the issues.
Many social media news outlets such as Vice, Buzzfeed and NowThis work hard to promote information regarding the issues, but if you’re looking for another source of information and output that you can relate to and/or gain from, consider following these three woke celebrities:
1. Chance the Rapper
Following the election closely, Chance the Rapper has spent much of the past few weeks working to encourage young voters to get out and use their vote as well as to help to make change despite the ultimate results. In the past, he’s also worked very hard to fight homelessness in his hometown of Chicago. His tweets, like the one below, include conversations with followers regarding the issues as well as his own discussion on what is going on.
To Chi: i too was invested in electing a president that would hear me… elections over, I’m invested in Making the president-elect hear me https://t.co/u5nT2P3XIg

2. Rowan Blanchard
Though only 15 years old, this star of Disney Channel’s “Girl Meets World” has already spent a good portion of her life as an activist, and plans to continue doing so as she gets older. I know what you’re thinking— she’s 15, what does she know? Just check out her twitter. Rowan is a young champion for LGBT+ rights, women’s rights, racial equality and more. Though she couldn’t vote in the recent election, she’s worked hard to make her voice heard after the results.
I believe in my generation. I believe in girls. I believe in women. I believe in people of color. I believe in LGBTQ+ community. I believe. pic.twitter.com/dNsoZosV5n

3. Hannah Hart
Known for her comedic YouTube videos, two novels and multiple films, Hannah Hart has been working hard to make a name for herself in the world. Throughout this past election, she’s been sure to voice her opinions on the issues and has been working to combat the anxieties many people are facing following the election results. If you need a voice that’s going to reassure you, she’s the one. Check her out.
Change is not always glorious. But the change is still there.

This is not a conclusive list, by any means. Feel free to use this as a starting point on your journey to finding sources of your own woke-ness. Remember: Knowing about the issues will only benefit you in the end as we work to fix the future of America during these next four years.
