Chichen Itza is in the Yucatán State of Mexico and was one of the biggest Mayan cities in A.D. 600-1200. Many tourists travel here each year to learn about its culture and see the gorgeous “El Castillo” temple in the middle of the land and is used for Mayan astronomy, it has 365 steps for each day of the year.
I went here in 2016, with my mom, grandma, and best friend. We were on a cruise for my high school graduation present and the Yucatan Peninsula was one of our stops. We took a bus and arrived at the site, we walked through a beautiful tree covered path lined with vendors selling art, food, sculptures, etc. I bought an embroidered cloth from a woman that had a blue flower stitched into it. The ruins of the city were rich in Hispanic history and culture, we were amazed at all the facts. There was a Great Ball Court that was used to play a version of racquetball, held as rituals. In this game the winners escaped death unlike the losers of the game. The architecture was stunning, and we really enjoyed getting to go to Chichen Itza.
