Preface:
Since I was a little girl, I dreamed of going to Rome and doing everything mentioned below, plus more. Hopefully, soon, a little girls’ dream can become a young woman’s reality.Â
When in Rome
I’ll do as the Italians do,
and stuff my face every single day
with hot pepperoni pizzas, creamy penne pasta, and gooey gelatos.
I’ll chew and slurp and make drawn-out mmmmmm sounds.
I’ll bring my hand towards my mouth
kiss the tips of my fingers then toss them into the air and say “Delizioso!”
When in Rome
Â
I’ll learn to ride a Vespa
with the assistance of a local with a great amount of patience.
I’ll fall off at the least three times and at the most five.
I’ll keep at it until I’m finally roaming the cobblestone streets.
When in Rome
Â
I’ll stop by several
statues, museums, famous fountains galore.
I’ll visit the Sistine Chapel to stare up in amazement as
the fingers of both Adam and God almost meet.
When in Rome
Â
I’ll drink wine at a vineyard
letting the sweet, tangy, rich red liquid roll over my tongue.Â
I’ll softly rotate each glass, sniff, sip, and then repeat.
I’ll even allow the grapes to burst and squish beneath my toes.
When in RomeÂ
Â
I’ll shop, because why not?
I’ll say things like “Ciao!” and “Grazie”.Â
I’ll ride a Gondola throughout the city at night
admiring the way the beautiful bright stars light up the sky.
Â
When in Rome
Â
Every morning I’ll wake up in a spacious antique villa.
One without any cable, internet, or electricity.Â
I’ll read books in solitude and take bubble baths in peace.
I’ll be free to be content,
Just me, myself, and Rome.Â
