Why Fall is better than Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SFU chapter.

I know most of you are pretty bummed summer is coming to an end. No more days flocking in thesun, the days are getting shorter and of course school is back in session. As much as I love summer, fall is my favorite season and I think it is one of the best times of year, especially in Vancouver. The green leaves on trees change color, there is a slight chill in the air, wearing baggy sweaters becomes fashionable. Fall just has a certain charm to it other seasons just don’t have. I love rocking my ripped jeans, plaid shirts, comfy sweaters and doing all sorts of fall things. To cheer you all up about the end of summer I compiled a list of all the reasons fall is just as good, if not better, than summer.

1.  Netflix Overkill

You guys may have heard, fall season is the time when all the major TV shows and movies either return or premier. Is anyone else as excited about the return of Riverdale and Stranger Things as I am? Fall weather is the perfect time to binge watches all your favorite TV shows.

2.  Pumpkin Patches

The best part of fall is going to the pumpkin patches. Not only are they free, they also serve as the best backdrop for Instagram photo-ops. Grab your best friends go through the corn mazes, go on hay rides, pick some pumpkins, and of course takes lots and lots of photos! I highly recommend checking out my favorite farm Laity Pumpkin Patch in Maple Ridge, but if you want to find a farm near you check out Family Fun Vancouver’s website for the ultimate pumpkin patch guide, link right here: http://www.familyfuncanada.com/vancouver/go-for-the-pumpkins-stay-for-the-fun-pumpkin-patches-around-vancouver/

3. Haunted Everything

Are you a fan of the paranormal? Do you like psyching yourself? Then fall is your season. I love going to “haunted” houses every year with my friends. Its a great way to get into the Halloween spirit and let be honest its kinda fun getting so scared you nearly wet your pants. Some of my favorite haunted house are: Potters House of Horrors and Playland’s Fright Nights. For a more detailed list check out the Daily Hives completed list: http://dailyhive.com/vancouver/haunted-houses-vancouver-2016-halloween

4.  Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice

One of the best things about fall is all the delicious fall meals. Fall has some amazing seasonal foods such as apples, squashes, cranberries and of course pumpkins. With fall comes the start of baking season, family dinners and pumpkin spice everything. It is like tradition now the first day of fall also marks the return of Starbucks pumpkin spice latte.

5.  Holidays Season

The main reason why I love fall is because it kicks off holiday season. I mean I like summer but I really love all the amazing events that go on in the city for fall. For example, the entire month of October is dedicated to Halloween. You get random costume shops popping up everywhere, haunted house, horror movies and lot of Halloween parties. As soon as November comes rolling around, Vancouver starts to turn into Christmas. The ice rings start opening,Christmas lights hang from every other house and the entire city just feels so warm and inviting. The holidays really make you feel part of a community. Fall is really the time of year that brings people together. So, if you are bummed about summer coming to an end, think about all the fun memories you can create during the fall season. Go to pumpkin patches, haunted houses and spend quality time with your friends and family.
