CLEP Exams Give Students Other Options

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ship chapter.

Schedule adjustment period is happening now at Shippensbug University, but before you commit to your spring semester classes, consider your options.  The CLEP exams, offered through College Board, consist of exams that students can take to test out of a variety of classes.  If a student passes a CLEP exam, the student can transfer up to six credits per exam to a university that allows the transfer.

The exams offered include many courses in literature, language, business, mathematics and social sciences.  The exams are extensive and may include a large amount of multiple choice questions and essays.  The price to take one exam is under $100, saving you loads of time and money that would be spent taking a class at your university.

Study guides for the exams are provided on the website clep.collegeboard.org.  Although you will still have to study hard for the exam, it is worth considering in regards to how hard you will study if you take a semester class.

Currently, Shippensburg University allows the CLEP exam transfers.  For more information on the CLEP exams, talk to your major department or visit clep.collegeboard.org.
