As a Batman fan, I was super excited when I finally started watching Gotham a few months ago. The great thing about the show is that it continues to be full of surprises. For example, when we first started watching, my friends and I all thought it was going to be a cute show about little baby Batman. However, as adorable as young Bruce Wayne is, this assumption was not at all accurate.
The other thing that I did not expect was who ended up being my favorite character. I’ve always been one of those people that tends to gravitate towards the villains. The one Batman villain that I’ve always loved, as everyone does, is the Joker. He’s that villain that we love despite our better judgment. He’s a bad person who does bad things and has no redeeming qualities. And yet, we still can’t get enough of him. That’s why I was slightly disappointed when I realized that he wasn’t a main character, or even anywhere to be seen at all in the beginning of the show. I quickly got over my disappointment, however, when my attention was immediately drawn to a character I did not expect: Edward Nygma.
The Riddler is one of those villains that I was always aware of, but never paid much attention to. The great thing about Edward in this show is that he starts out not being even remotely close to his evil alter-ego. In the beginning, he is a slightly weird and dorky, but completely lovable, forensic scientist with the Gotham City Police Department.
