The 5 Things You Question When Registering For Classes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Siena chapter.

Attending a small liberal arts college makes registration time an uphill battle. When the class you need is full before your year even begins to register the process is frustrating.  Common sense and logic often come into question, when registering my future funds away and deciding to invest more in my education. I often wonder the following things…

1.Why is there only one class section open for a topic every one who has my major needs?

It is concerning when you are a Math major and you see this. It leads me to question the head of the department’s logic and common sense. When there are 100+ Math majors alone in the sophomore class who most likely will be moving onto a 300 level class there Junior year…. Why did you think it was suitable to have one section open with 25 seats?  Then have the audacity to complain about the amount of students e-mailing you with a problem… Did you really think they would let falling behind slide?

2. Who decided to hire every horrible professor?

This is especially true for the accounting department here at Siena. If you look up reviews are have any first hand experience, you will come to realize there is approximately two good accounting professors out of ten and the five teaching next semester do not include the two good ones, you were hoping for. Odds are they are on sabbatical and not only will you be teaching yourself accounting but also you will cry in the process.  Pack extra tissues for next semester!

3. Did Satan make up these times?

It is rare that we have any class available with a Friday off and most of the good professors are adjuncts, who happen to teach at night for three hours straight. I’m sorry but three hours is a lot and who wants to go back into the cold for a six to nine class?

4. Why am I settling for a professor with a D rating on ratemyprofessor.com?

I’m sorry, but if a professor has no good rating online and no positive word of mouth reaction on campus… why is he/she still here?!? Call me crazy but our tuition is high and I expect a higher standard on campus.  If they can barely speak English and are known for failing students with a 50% or higher drop rate something is wrong.

5. Why do core class 100 level professors for art, history, religion, or philosophy have this much negative feedback? How hard can the core really be?

Always trust the reviews my friend. If the professor has a bad stigma, odds are he/she is bad to the bone. Finding an easy A core here at Siena is slim to none and if you so happen to find one, good luck making it in to the class.
