They’ve seen you at your worst…
High school: They’ve remained friends with you through your worst adolescent times, even through your awkward 7th grade raccoon eyeliner phase and posting all those cringe-worthy selfies and statuses on Facebook freshman year of HS.
College: They’ve seen what you look like at all times, from throwing up at 3 am and crying over a boy, to your makeup-smeared face the very second you wake up the next day, to you crying ugly tears at the library during finals week.
They know everything about you…
High school: They remember who you had a crush on in 5th grade, know all about your Justin Bieber obsession, have the layout of your house memorized (especially the contents of your fridge and pantry), and they’ve met your entire extended family and know them all by name.
College: They know about the random ugly dude you shamefully made out with last Friday night, what your poop looked like this morning, and your pimple popping fetish.
They have a lot in common with you…
High school: They will still talk to you about your Biology teacher from 11th grade, know your favorite hometown restaurant spot, and will gossip with you about people from high school that you see on social media.
College: They can complain with you when there isn’t any hot water in the dorm rooms or the food at the dining hall sucks, and they’re always craving the same thing as you for your late-night snacks.
You do everything together…
High school: When you’re together on breaks and over summer, you practically live at each other’s houses. You will make any excuse to see them when you’re both in town, whether it be for a emergency late-night ice cream run or spontaneous adventure.
College: You eat all three meals of the day together, drag each other to the gym in the morning, and shower next to each other so you can have conversations while you bathe. You won’t be caught dead at a party or any other social event without each other because you’re basically inseperable.
They’re totally comfortable with you…
High school: They call your parents Mom and Dad and will walk into your house unannounced on any given day, and will say they love you unashamedly whenever you say goodbye to them.
College: You’ve probably seen them naked way more than is necessary from all the times they’ve done outfit changes in front of you, and they will walk into your room unannounced whenever they want, even when you’re napping.
They’re your biggest fans…
High school: They know what your dream job has been since middle school, so all they want is to see you succeed with it. They will always tell you it’s going to be OK and convince you that you can do it when school gets tough, even if they’re miles away. They also comment heart eye emoji’s on all of your Instagram pictures to publicly express their love and support for you.
College: They’re the ones that help you stay awake for those late nights in the library and push you to send in all of your internship and job applications. They see how hard you work on a daily basis and will be your biggest cheerleader along the way to reach your goals. They also will always tell you how hot you look when you put on your party outfits and remind you that they love you 50 times when they’re drunk.
You always keep them updated…
High school: Since they probably go to college far away, you likely text them your daily updates 24/7 and have to Facetime or call them at least once a week. Your snap streaks are 200+ days.
College: You have to get breakfast with them every Sunday morning to update them fully on the weekend’s events, and you have each other’s class schedules memorized so you can spend every waking free moment together. You probably text them in the group chat even when you’re sitting a few feet away from each other.
They’re always there for you…
High school: Even from miles away, you always can call them up when you need someone to talk to. If you kept in touch with them all the way through high school and beyond, most likely they’re not going anywhere. They’re your “day ones” and will always be there for you, like family. You can always depend on them when you come back for breaks and summer vacation, because they’re your home.
College: These people will spend every moment of the most stressful but most amazing times of your life with you. Even though you might have just met them in the past couple of years, your bond with college friends is unlike any other. They stick it through the late-night study hours and late-night party hours and will be there for you for a long time after school, too.
