Get ready, Siena – our Sienafest artist has been announced, and it’s a good one! Fetty Wap will be coming to campus on April 12, and in preparation for that, here are my top five Fetty Wap songs. They might all be his big hits, but hey, there’s a reason why they were the most popular!
5. “My Way (Ft. Monty)”
Ranking it at number five is one of Fetty’s many songs with Monty. While this was one of his most successful songs off of his debut album, since it peaked at number seven on Billboard’s Hot 100, it comes in at number five since to me this song is still an acquired taste. You have to be in the right mood to hear the “wa-a-a-y” and “sa-a-a-y” in the chorus without getting a little annoyed.
4. “History”
While the rest of my favorites are from his debut album, this is Fetty’s newest single. It came out a few days after Valentine’s Day, but it’s definitely more of anthem for those of us who were alone on the day than those celebrating with a girlfriend or boyfriend. All in all, it’s a great song for when you want to lay in your bed and feel sad, which sometimes is a need.
3. “Again”
My roommate is probably one of the biggest Fetty Wap fans I know. When the news broke that he was this year’s concert, she told me in high school she would only go out half the time for the slim chance that one of Fetty’s songs would play at the function. “Again” is definitely one of those songs you want to hear at the party–it has great danceability, a super catchy chorus, and lyrics that are at least halfway relatable. I, for one, can’t wait to hear this one live!
2. “Trap Queen”
I know it’s a surprise this isn’t my number one pick. This is definitely his biggest hit, peaking at number two on the charts, and is undoubtedly iconic and catchy. Listening to it still makes me feel like I’m a sophomore in high school hearing someone play it on the bus to a cross country meet. And that’s a great! Some artists just have songs that seem to define an entire year in our memories, and I’m certainly not the only one who had that experience with this song. Still, there’s one song that I still think is more fun…
1. “679 (ft. Remy Boyz)”
While that gif is from an award he received for “Trap Queen,” “679” is still the winner in my heart! This is one song I’ve found you can play at any party, or in any car, and everyone will be excited about it. Again, this is one of those songs that just screams 2015. Anyone who was in high school or college that year probably has most or all of the words living in the back of their brain, and I can’t wait to see the crowd go crazy when it comes time to hear this live.
While sometimes the notoriety level of Sienafest artists can be a little questionable, I have a feeling this is one concert my fellow Saints don’t want to miss. Tickets go on sale March 19, and the concert is April 12. Siena students, I’ll see you there!
