Wandavision Review: a Must-See Show Even if You’re Not a Marvel Fan

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Siena chapter.

Wandavision has been one of the most highly anticipated shows to come out in recent years. Wandavision follows the events of the fan and critically acclaimed Avengers: Endgame (2019) and follows the story of Wanda Maximoff and The Vision. To give a short recap of the events of Avengers: Endgame, Vision was killed in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) to obtain the Mind Stone that powered his entire system. Wandavision starts with Vision and Wanda in a sitcom-style episode set in the 1950’s following the sitcom template of I Love Lucy and The Dick Van Dyke Show. As we saw in the first trailer for the show, they will go through different decades in each episode until they get to the present day. As we go through the decades, the mystery behind Wandavision will unfold and we will learn more about the Marvel Universe. This show is expanding what the Marvel Cinematic Universe looks like going forward, and it vastly expands the directions future projects can take.

Disney/Marvel

Growing up, I had a special connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I would watch Marvel movies with my dad; he’s the reason I’m into watching the movies today. I have not stopped watching Marvel movies since, and whenever a new movie comes out I always see it within the first week at the latest. I usually see it the night or the day it comes out. When I heard Wandavision was coming to Disney Plus, I got a Disney Plus subscription as soon as possible. I started watching it the day it came out with my sister. It is an amazing show so far, and it pushes the boundaries of what is possible within the MCU.

Wandavision pays homage to different sitcom styles. People who did not grow up watching the sitcoms will be able to learn more about the shows that the people around them have grown up on. Wandavision is a fantastically exhilarating adventure show that you wish was longer, and are disappointed whenever the credits start to roll. I recommend this show to anyone and everyone, even if you are not a huge Marvel fan. It might be hard to follow at times, but if you pay attention and follow social media about the show you will understand it. Wandavision is a cultural phenomenon that I do not see stopping anytime soon.
