Siena College tends to be a place for parties on the weekends. I mean, come on, we all know at least three people who regularly spend Fridays and Saturdays living it up in some fellow students’ room or town house. The question is: what do you do when you donât want to spend your evenings partying it up with a bunch of students in a cramped room? If you don’t have an answer for this question, there are plenty of alternatives to fill your weekends.
Go see a movie.
Every weekend, SEB offers a movie thatâs shown in Roger Bacon, which you helped pick out if you happened to take the survey every semester. Or hey, if you want to get off campus, take the shuttle to Crossgates Mall and see something in theaters. The welcome desk sells discounted tickets to the movies if you want to catch the latest movie that might be sold out by the time you actually get to the theater. The best thing about this is that you donât even really need to go with anyone. I know it may seem a bit weird, but, what are you going to do with a person? Ignore them for two hours?
Go to the mall.
Retail therapy is always a must after a hard week of writing papers and studying. If you’re tired of Saga food, head to a restaurant thatâs having a special on appetizers. Go get your nails done at the salon. If you’re low on cash, thatâs fine. Maybe youâve got a friend who needs a new pair of shoes and wants a second opinion or you want to window shop for something to put on your birthday list. The mall is also just a great place to hang out with friends.
Look into an on-campus activity.
The best part about going to a small college, as seems to be the consensus in every article about small colleges, is that there is always something going on. Sometimes you can just go see a play put on by Stage 3 or perhaps go to a craft night put on by SEB. Maybe thereâs even a special event for an upcoming holiday. Either way, you’re most likely going to find something both interesting and engaging thatâll distract you from the pounding music in the dorm next door. Check out these Weeks of Welcome events going on now!
Plan a game night.
Still want to hang out with people but really donât feel like leaving your dorm? Grab a few friends and play some games. Maybe thereâs someone with an Xbox or a Steam account who will let the group take turns playing a video game. Or, hey, find a few board games and have a blast kicking your friends’ butts at Sorry or Monopoly. Show off your skills at Trivia. Print out a card game online that isnât just the generic game one would normally play. Download the headbands app and amaze everyone with how much of a dork you are when it comes to TV shows. And, if all else fails, charades are fantastic.
Did somebody say arts and crafts?
So, not everyone may be very artistic, but that shouldnât stop you from spending your Friday or Saturday night like this. The thing about just hanging out with a group of friends and badly drawing, coloring, or even making a knot blanket is that literally no one cares about your skill. Itâs just a fun and relaxing way to spend time with friends. You might even find you like it and have even gotten better at it.
Lastly, just binge a TVÂ show.
If all else fails and you canât seem to find anything appealing – with or without friends – to do this weekend, just put on Netflix, or perhaps someone brought their entire “Game of Thrones” or “Gilmore Girls” DVD collection for viewing pleasure. Watching your favorite TV show for the fiftieth time is nothing to be ashamed of. Or, hey, start that show on Netflix youâve been dying to watch. Thereâs nothing wrong with just staying in for the night and watching a good show.
Honestly, you probably wonât be the only one not wanting to party on this weekend or maybe any weekend. Find some people whoâd want to do any of these suggestions with you. Maybe you could come up with your own too; thereâs nothing wrong with getting creative to have a bit of fun. Just know that you have options if you donât want to get out there and party until Sunday.
