Sidelines Magazine is a literary and arts publication at Simmons. It is student run and weĀ publish all kinds of student work plus guest features from a professional author and artist. We accept art, photography, poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction. You can submit up to five pieces; make sure that you remove your name from submissions so the process is anonymous. Email workĀ to sidelines@simmons.edu. The due date to submit is March 16th!Ā
1. Submitting is low stakes
Submitting your work can be scary, but we understand that everyone is at different levels ofĀ writing and artistry. Even if you aren’t sure about your work submit it! You might be surprised and get something accepted.Ā
2. Getting work accepted looks good on resumes
Whether you’re an English major looking to be published, a graphic artist, or even a Biology student, having this on your resume looks great. It shows skill, precision, creativity, and an ability to think outside of the box. You can also bring the magazine to an interview to show future employers–it is a physical manifestation of the work you’ve done and that cannot be looked over by an employer.Ā
3. All art gets considered for the cover
This is amazing if you’re trying to launch your art career. It will attract employers, prove the galleries that you’re worth to be displayed, and again look amazing on a resume (which you can physically hand to them). Getting art accepted looks great regardless, but the cover is an amazing opportunity!
