How to Get Through Winter Break with Dietary Restrictions

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Simmons chapter.

It’s that time of the year around post-Thanksgiving and pre-New Year when we all get the opportunity to rest. However, some people celebrate certain holidays where eating is abundant. Whether you’re celebrating a postponed friendsgiving, Christmas dinner or a family gathering, here’s how you can survive with minimal pain.

Read labels!!

It’s time consuming, but reading labels and knowing your restrictions are the best way to avoid incidents.

Bring your own food!

This way, you can get what you want and people won’t take it.

If friends/family are making food, ask them to make a small portion per your restrictions.

It doesn’t hurt to ask! If someone’s making mashed potatoes and you’re dairy-free, ask for potatoes with almond milk and lactose free butter!

If all else fails, always keep a snack with you.

My go-to snack is saltines…

Happy Holidays and best of luck!
