7 Shows You Need to Watch This Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJSU chapter.

The days are getting shorter and the weather is getting colder. You’re going to be spending a lot more time cozied up indoors, which means you’re going to need some new shows to watch. Don’t worry, fall is the season when all the amazing shows debut or make their comebacks. If you’ve been looking for a new show to watch or to hop on the bandwagon of, don’t worry the search is over!

Scandal

If you’re not a fan already you’ve probably heard a lot of hype, and are wondering if it’s actually worth it. Oh yes, it definitely is. If you’re a fan of drama you will be sucked in by the first episode. This political thriller sets the bar for all TV dramas to come with stunning fashion and jaw dropping scenes. “Scandal” airs on ABC Thursdays at 9 pm. Please grab some wine and popcorn and prepare to have your mind blown every single episode. Netflix has the first six seasons of this binge-worthy show. If you’re already caught up, but don’t have cable, Hulu has the new episodes up the next day!

Riverdale

OK, so you might be thinking this show is for high schoolers, and that might be true because it is on The CW. However, it’s so much more than that. The show is based off of the Archie comics so it has this sort of 50’s corny feel set in the present time that somehow works. “Riverdale” has everything you want in a drama. Suspense, murder and twisted characters. It’s weird mixture of bubbly and dark work perfectly to create an edge of your chair show that’s really enjoyable to watch. I was skeptical at first, but by the end of the second episode you’ll be drawn in. You can catch the second season of “Riverdale” on The CW Wednesday’s at 8 pm or on The CW app. The first season is also on Netflix.

Grey’s Anatomy

This is a tried and true drama and another one of Shonda Rhimes (“Scandal” and “How to Get Away with Murder”) creations. The show is on it’s fourteenth season, so obviously she’s doing something right. Literally, a binge-watcher’s dream, you can watch season 1-13 on Netflix. It’s not you average hospital drama. This show has a ton of lovable characters and episodes that will both warm and break your heart. Grey’s comes on Thursday’s at 8 pm and is also on hulu the following day.

Ghosted

Maybe drama’s not your thing or you just need something to lighten up your evening. Well, Fox has just debuted a new comedy starring Adam Scott and Craig Robinson. Also known as Ben from “Parks and Recreation” and Darryl from “The Office.” I don’t think you can go wrong with backgrounds like these. Robinson plays a skeptical former missing persons detective and Scott plays a man who believes his wife was abducted by aliens. Need I say more? Check out this new show Sunday’s at 8:30 pm on Fox or catch it later on Hulu.

Arrow, The Flash & Supergirl

If you are a superhero junkie than these might be the shows for you. If you’re looking for a superhero show with a serious tone than “Arrow” might be for you. If you’re into flashbacks and a batman-esque vibe you’ll want to catch this show Thursday’s at 9 pm on The CW. Not to mention Stephen Amell is pretty easy on the eyes! Also available on The CW app and with previous seasons on Netflix. If you want a hero that’s more light-hearted with a touch of serious than check out “The Flash” Tuesday’s at 8 on The CW or catch up on Netflix. You might also want to check out “Supergirl” Mondays at 8 pm. Another light-hearted superhero series with just enough drama to keep it interesting.

Gilmore Girls

Perhaps you’re looking for something a little less current and a lot more quirky. Maybe a show full of early 2000’s fashion and references and is completely on Netflix. Say no more. “Gilmore Girls” is definitely the series for you. This carefree show stars Lauren Graham (“Parenthood”) and Alexis Bledel (“Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”) as a mother and daughter duo who are constantly drinking coffee. Their witty comebacks and small town charm make this show easy and fun to watch. And it somehow makes you feel cozy at the same time. This is a perfect light a candle and snuggle up under the covers kind of show that is perfect for a fall evening. Once you fall in love it gets even better! Netflix revived the show for a 4 episode special series.
