Quinta Brunson has certainly done her homework! Brunson is the creator, executive producer, and writer for America’s new favorite sitcom “Abbott Elementary.” She is also its star and plays second-grade teacher Janine Teagues.Â
Some people may think that Brunson’s success came out of left field, but that may not be the case for those who grew up watching her career on the internet.Â
You might have first encountered Brunson on Instagram. In 2014, Brunson posted comedic videos and created a huge following. Some of you might be familiar with her viral digital series, “The Girl Who’s Never Been on a Nice Date.”
Brunson’s viral fame only went up from there. That same year she joined BuzzFeed as a junior producer, according to a 2016 Cosmopolitan article. She went on creating and writing video content for the company.Â
Later, BuzzFeed Motion Pictures brought her on as a developmental partner to launch the series she created called “Broke.” The series was about three friends from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, moving to Los Angeles, CA, to chase their dreams.Â
In December 2021, “Abbott Elementary” aired on ABC. The show tells the story of a group of hardworking and passionate teachers in the Philadelphia public school system. Despite working in an underfunded school district, they advocate for their students in ways that positively impact the students and community.Â
The show is a heartwarming comedy that provides keen insight into the education system (low wages, lack of classroom supplies, etc.) while also delivering hilarious storylines.Â
“Abbott Elementary” and its stars have racked up many awards and nominations, and there is no telling that they won’t accumulate more in the future.Â
