Top 5 Beauty Products for All Year-Round

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJSU chapter.

Sometimes with all the crazy new beauty trends that happen every other minute, it can be difficult to navigate through the giant Sephora or the makeup section in the Target near you, and actually find things you will use and enjoy (while on a budget). Here are some of my tried and true favorites that last me all year round. No matter the weather or the color scheme, these products will get you through every season and every casual or formal moment of life.

1. BB Cream

Startin’ off simple. BB Cream (or CC Cream whichever you choose) is an easy lightweight alternative to the heavy and cakey look of foundation without sacrificing coverage. I can still cover almost all of my little blemishes, without feeling like I have a whole other layer of face (Ick)! Plus, a lot of them have SPF built in to protect you from the sun down here in San Jose!

2. Mario Badescu Aloe/Rosewater Spray

Every beauty blogger’s go to just so happens to be mine too. This spray is 10/10 and NOT overrated. A spritz of this spray before bed and right when I wake up keeps my face smelling and feeling fresh. The aloe in the formula prevents dry skin and heals any blemishes you may have, while the rosewater is one of the best things for long-standing hydration of the skin (which we all need in these colder months).

3.  Maybelline Mascara

Don’t feeling like paying $30 for a tube of mascara? Maybelline is my go-to drugstore mascara brand. They have so much variety in color, volume, waterproof or non. It’s also the only brand that can be found in a drugstore that actually seems to do what it says (at least for my lashes). It elongates your lashes without getting too clumpy.

4. Too Faced Palettes

My Sephora receipts will tell you this much: I love Too Faced palettes. It has a variety of colors that range from neutral to the pinkest hues. Too Faced never fails to have cute packaging, themes and good products. The shadows aren’t too powdery, and they produce just the right amount of pigment that can be left for an everyday look, or layered to create a more dramatic one. My personal favorite is the Sweet Peach palette. Add some falsies and a messy bun and you look effortlessly perfect.

5. Highlighter

Highlighter is the perfect way to spice up your look and a surefire way to make a friend (you’ll get tons of compliments). Highlighters come in all shapes and sizes. There are so many tones including blue, green, and gold tones. This versatility allows you to match your highlighter to the rest of your makeup look or even the season. So have fun with it!

I am a writer and poet from the Bay Area who will be newly attending San Jose State University this fall semester to study Psychology. I want to become a marriage and family therapist, and dedicate my life to helping people through words and communication, two skills which are as vital to all writers. I want to write about things that matter, things that have an impact, and I intend to do so.
Tiana is a senior at San Jose State University and she is learning to take each day one step at a time while adjusting to life in the Bay Area. She's often watching YouTube videos on D.I.Y projects or hair care, but majority of the time she's watching Parks and Rec episodes while pretending to do homework. In the midst of all that homework dodging she's also casually planning her dream wedding.
