Halloween is known for parties and dressing up, but this year, hosting or attending a party isn’t a good idea because of the pandemic. Although this is disappointing, there are still ways to celebrate Halloween at home. A good way to keep the spirit of Halloween alive is to host a virtual Halloween party with your club members or friends! Halloween is on a Saturday this year, so you are free to do something fun! Here is a guide to hosting your own virtual Halloween party this year.
1. Halloween Costume Contest
What’s a Halloween party without wearing costumes? Tell your friends to come to the virtual party all dressed up and host a costume contest! Everyone can vote on who they think has the best costume, and you can even have categories such as “scariest costume” and “most extra costume.” This is a good way to get everyone dressed up even though you can’t be together in person.
2. Play a Murder Mystery Game
Halloween is a spooky time, so a murder mystery game is perfect to play at a virtual Halloween Party! You can find games to play over Zoom here and here. In these games, you get to play detective in solving a murder mystery! In the first link, there will be a host that guides you and your friends or team through the game. Make it a night of mystery and fun within the comfort of your own home! The instructions are very easy to follow for both murder mysteries that I linked.
3. Spooky Movie
Watch a spooky or horror movie to get in the Halloween mood with your squad! You can use Netflix Party or Scener to do this, or just share your screen over Zoom. Get some candy and popcorn to eat while watching the movie! These are some suggestions for what to watch:

4. Decorate or carve a pumpkin
If your friends are not horror movie fans, a good activity that you can do together virtually is pumpkin carving or painting! Let everyone know beforehand to buy a pumpkin and carving materials, and then you can all get together virtually, set the mood with spooky music, and carve or paint your pumpkins! I have saved some pumpkin painting inspiration on my Pinterest, so go check it out if you decide to do this! When everyone is done, take turns sharing what you made. It’ll be like you’re back in elementary school, doing arts and crafts and having show-and-tell.
Remember to stay safe this Halloween and keep the spirit alive by buying candy and hosting a virtual party! The holidays may be different this year, but you can still celebrate!
