10 Tips to Get You Through a Day Drink

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJU chapter.

You may have heard it called a darty, dage, or a daylong. Whatever name you use, we can all agree that there are very few other places where shotgunning beers at 1:00 in the afternoon is acceptable. Now that spring is in full swing, here are a few tips to help you conquer the beast, the day drink.

1. Brunch: Mimosas are obviously necessary, start your morning off with something light and fruity.

2. Pack Accordingly: Try to plan ahead and bring things you may need throughout the day in a satchel or purse; phone charger, hair tie, chapstick, advil, and if your skin tone is anything like mine, sunscreen.

3. Outfit: Coachella fashion tells us flower crowns are out, but Boho is definitely in. Converse are a staple shoe, but don’t wear any footwear you wouldn’t want to get a little dirty.

4. PACE YOURSELF: Number one thing to remember while day drinking: it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

5. Eat: Fit a meal in somewhere or you’ll be passed out faster than you can say “I need another drink”.

6. Music: It’s not third floor Cuddies, no need to start off too hard. Try some country music or the classic Summer Hits of the 90’s Pandora.

7. Rehydrate: Try to alternate alcohol with water to avoid a hangover at 4 in the afternoon.

8. Nap: The nap can be crucial especially if you plan on going out later that night as well.

9. Even though you probably will not make it back out: And that’s okay! It takes a very special (maybe magical) type of person to be able to be out all day and all night.

10. Ibuprofen: Whether you make it out that night or not, before you go to sleep, do yourself a favor and pop two Advil. Your body will thank you in the morning.

Happy Day Drink season, Hawks!
