5 Productive Things to do on a Snow Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJU chapter.

With the crazy winter weather we have been having lately, snow days are becoming part of our weekly routine. Sure, you can go sledding and play in the snow with friends but after that what do you do?! It’s easy to take these days just to relax and do nothing, but why not be a little productive and creative on your day off?! Here are my favorite things to do with my time on especially when the weather outside is frightful…

1. Craft: Crafting on a snow day can be totally therapeutic. If you’re in Greek life, then the obvious thing to do would be to start on some amazing craft for your little!! All you need is a little glitter, glue, paper and paint. If you’re not involved in the Greek community, then start crafting for your own room! Spruce up your apartment with some new decorations and signs. Below are some fabulous crafting ideas made by my roommates! A little decorating can go a long way.

2. Catch Up: Take this time off to catch up on assignments you’ve neglected, reading you never did for class, sleep in, do laundry, clean your sheets, scrub your bathroom until its squeaky clean, vacuum your apartment, do the dishes, online shop, surf the latest E! news stories, AND of course catch up on those episodes of The Bachelor and Housewives that you missed this week because you were too busy to tune in!

3. Organize: Whenever I have spare time I find myself organizing everything and anything in sight. Organize your closet, put your shoes in a new place, sort out your jewelry and go through your desk drawers. Use bins in different places around your room and within your closet. Change up where your mirror is. Add a small bulletin board to the inside of your closet door. Try color coding, or organize clothes by category (sweaters, buttons downs, short sleeves.) Go through your closet and take out the things you know you’ll never wear again and take them to Plato’s closet later in the week to try and earn some extra cash upfront!

4. Apply Yourself: Now is the perfect time to finish that internship application you’ve been working on, or apply for that summer job you really want. Research it, make a linked in, and work on perfecting your resume and getting in contact with companies to ask questions about your potential dream job or internship. You finally have time to get ahead, make it worth it and show your interest!

5. Cook: Check online (my favorite recipes are found on Pinterest) for some recipes to create yummy treats! Teach yourself to cook a new healthy dish or make some sweets for your friends just in time for Valentine’s day. Here are a few of my favorite snow day recipes:

Dreamy Creamy Hot Chocolate

Baked Potato Soup
