With the Help of HouzeMe: Off-Campus Housing Just Got Easier

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJU chapter.

The “big dream” is becoming a reality…HouzeMe, the solution to off-campus housing for college students, has officially been launched as an iOS App.

The founders of HouzeMe and Saint Joseph’s University Alumni, Christopher DeLuca ’14 and Paul Manganella ‘14, have worked exclusively with a strict timeline in order to take their start up from an online resource to an easily accessible mobile application in less than a year. “We couldn’t be more excited to announce the launch of HouzeMe’s app.” Manganella said. “This represents nearly a year of development and we couldn’t be happier to provide a portal for students to easily explore and review properties on and around their campuses from their phones.”

Rental season is in sight for many landlords seeking out college students to make their rental properties a home. The introduction of the free HouzeMe app will be the primary portal for students to interact with landlords across the Philadelphia area this season. With over 2,200+ beds (the unit of measurement in the student housing industry) available for students to view on the app, the number of listings has tripled over the past several months and is expected to grow rapidly in the foreseeable future.

The development of this application eliminates the wasted hours spent frantically asking peers for their landlord’s contact information or on platforms such as Zillow or realtor.com, where most search results are not applicable to college-aged renters. “We’re working towards something greater, but this is a big accomplishment for our team. We’ve turned a once difficult process into a very easy one. As we grow, we will only continue to make things simpler for our users” DeLuca said. I have gone through the rental search myself, the simplicity of HouzeMe has revolutionized the way students will be able to search for rental properties, communicate with landlords and handle the monthly obstacles involved with renting a home.

As the future looks bright, HouzeMe has also seen growth within the company. This includes three key new hires, several new Campus Representatives, including SJU Freshman Bill McAllister, and new SJU intern, Alex Manno. HouzeMe has successfully brought their technology in-house, with the on boarding of Evan Lee. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from USC, and immediately went on to complete his M.S. in EE at Stanford. HouzeMe’s ability to increase their network of student interaction across Philadelphia has also increased dramatically by partnering with Campus Philly.
