Welcome to preference night, collegiettes! If you’re in this fabulous group of young women who have made it to the final night of sorority recruitment, you know just how overwhelming the thought of getting dressed this week can be. You’ve set out your finest outfits and statement jewelry days in advance, hoping to let your personality shine through your personal style. But on this final and more formal night, what’s a girl to wear? Luckily some of us here at Her Campus have been in your high heels and know exactly how to get rid of your uncertainties. Here’s a few tips of what to wear on this special night.

Preference (Pref) night, as you know from our recent articles, is a more formal and special night of recruitment. Because you will have a more intimate night with a smaller group of girls, it is encouraged to wear a modest dress (save the tight, short dresses for the bars please). To put it simply: if you wouldn’t wear it to dinner with your boyfriend’s family, you probably shouldn’t wear it to pref night. Stick with a cocktail length dress and try not to pick something completely strapless (you don’t want to be adjusting your top all night).

Most girls will opt for a classic high heel this night, but if you’re more comfortable in flats, definitely choose that. Heels are dressier, but this is certainly not the night you should pretend you can walk in new heels as flawlessly as a runway model (and if you can, please teach me).

As for makeup, keep it simple. A dramatic smoky eye is not necessary tonight. You want to showcase your natural beauty, after all the purpose of makeup is to enhance that. Keep to a neutral palette and a light pink or peach lip color with a glossy finish.

Now that you’re confident in your outfit, be confident in yourself. You’ve made it this far and your inner beauty is what shines the brightest. Good luck, collegiettes!
