Florida house approves medical marihuana bill. 

The Florida State House has approved a bill that would make a strain of low THC marijuana legal in the state. The votes surprised skeptics on Thursday, the vote was 111 for and only 7 against. The Florida Senate is expected to pass the bill in the next few days and speculators believe that Governor Rick Scott will sign it. The bill that would make medical marijuana legal includes very specific conditions that would warrant treatment with medical marijuana.

Protests erupt over kidnapped girls.

Hundreds of Nigerians took to the street on Thursday to demand the government spend more effort on saving the kidnapped schoolgirls. Islamist militants kidnapped 200 high-school girls almost three weeks ago. Recently news outlets have been reporting that that some of the girls have been forced to marry off to their captors.  The group that kidnapped the girls, Boko Haram, has ties to recent bomb attacks, including an attack that killed 15 people this past Friday.

The Olympic Committee worries about Rio.

The International Olympic Committee has expressed concern about Rio de Janeiro’s readiness to host the 2016 Summer Olympics. Rio de Janeiro, a Brazilian city, is the first in South America to host the Olympics. Committee vice president John Coates said, “ There can be no plan B; we are going to Rio.” Apparently construction has just been started on a large complex that will host 11 events. Many critics doubt that the city will be able to be ready on time without international help.
