With the end of the semester nearly upon us, Skid kids are finally getting to enjoy the pleasant temperatures of spring. The sun is finally shining, and everyone is throwing down blankets in the quad with the hopes of soaking up some rays. Sadly, with the end of the academic year also come major assessments, essays, and finals. This may lead you to ask yourself: “How can I enjoy the weather, get some fresh air, and still get my work done?” Have no fear! HC Skidmore has compiled a list of outdoor locations on campus that are great for studying.
1. The tables in front of Case Center: These tables are a prime location for reading and studying with friends. With easy access to Burgess and a great view of the quad that is perfect for people watching, this spot is great for getting down to work in the sun.
2. The tables behind case center: If the crowds in front of Case are too noisy or distracting, the outdoor seating and tables that face the Tang might be the place for you. This quieter option has the advantage of being close to Spa, while also being removed from the main foot traffic that occurs during the academic day.
3. The pond: If you want to get even farther away from the hustle-and-bustle of the Skidmore community, the pond is a beautiful and convenient escape. Set up your work at the table in the gazebo or lay out a blanket in the grass and get some reading done. One con to this location is that there is no WiFi, but, if you are trying to unplug and stay off social media to stay on task, this may be a pro as well!
4. The lawn chairs in front of the library: Need to go to the library, but can’t manage to pull yourself away from the great outdoors? Try the chairs directly outside of the library facing the south lawn. The view is always amazing, and the awning over the chairs creates shade and blocks spring showers.Â
