Many people may think that winter is too cold and dark to do anything fun. But I would argue that this is just false. Who doesn’t like to watch the mesmerizing snow fall outside their window? Who doesn’t like those rare, sunny days when the sun glistens on the snow and it may even feel comfortable to walk outside without a coat? Tis the season for hot chocolate, marshmallows, cute and cozy sweaters, snowy bonfires, ski trips and more. Even if you prefer the warmth, I truly believe that winter can to appeal to everyone.
Sure, the roads may be rough, but everyone can enjoy a snow day! Even in college, snow days are a real, exciting possibility if faculty and staff cannot drive to work safely. I have to say, going to school somewhere warm certainly lacks those much needed and unexpected days off. I am hoping that here at Skidmore we will get to enjoy at least one snow day this year. The snow here on campus can bring new friends, snow angels, and walking across a frozen pond covered in a foot of snow. I certainly have learned to love the spontaneity of college. I can walk into the dining hall with no plans and find people I know to sit with, or I can meet new people. However, the spontaneity of snowy or winter weather is one of my favorite things.
I love when the whole world just swirls around like one giant snow globe as we all spin, catching snowflakes on our tongues. I love when a white blanket lays across the ground with only occasional footprint breaking it up. Thrills and chills and invitations to go ice-skating with friends. A cozy and warm time of year with fuzzy feelings. Winter may not be your favorite but it sure has something everyone can appreciate!
