I am from California, and not Northern California where it occasionally gets chilly. I am from Los Angeles, California, where it’s always sunny and water is a foreign concept. Before, I don’t know, maybe…a week ago, I thought that sweater weather was from mid-September to November, heavy-duty jacket weather was from December to January, and sundress weather started back up again in February. When I told my friend this, he laughed in my face. Apparently everyone and their mother knew that sweater weather was from mid-September to December and heavy-duty jacket, hat, snow boots, and long john weather was from January to April. I slunk back to my dorm, took one look at my closet filled with shorts and eyelet tops, and began to sob.
After a nap and a long Facetime call with my mother, I had a cart full of Patagonia fleece headbands and a new perspective on winter. My roommates (both of whom originated on the East Coast) and I decorated our room for the holidays and played our Spotify playlist that we created just for watching the snow from our window seat with our Campus Cutie of choice. Nothing like a festive blanket, hot chocolate, and a tall sophomore to keep you warm. Standing with my hands on my hips and my feet in SmartWool socks, I surveyed my room and decided that this winter wouldn’t be so bad after all.
That is until I stepped outside and it was 35 degrees… catch me waddling down Case Walkway dressed in my sexiest winter gear.
