FAN, or the Feminist Action Network, is Skidmore’s main club dedicated to feminism on campus. After this semester’s club fair, we sat down with Kelli Moore to get an inside look at what changes are coming to the club this year.
- So what exactly is the Feminist Action Network?
FAN is a group on campus dedicated to fostering the presence of feminism(s) on campus. This includes: holding discussions, hosting speakers and performers, and creating a space for students to unite for policy change on campus as well as to participate in national and international activist movements. It’s a place for people to organize, learn, be heard, engage, etc.
2. I’ve heard the club is going to be a little different this year. How so?
This year we’re really trying to increase the amount of events we plan, and the variety of issues those events address. Basically we’re really working to increase the club’s activity and intersectionality. Which also means we’re going to be needing a lot of help!
3. When does the club meet, and how can I get involved?
The club meets every Tuesday at 7:00pm. If you want to get involved, join our skidsync page! Or shoot me an email at kmoore@skidmore.edu and I can add you to the email list. We also have a Facebook page (listed as Feminist Action Network) where we will post event updates, activist/important feminist figure of the week, etc.
4. Do you have any open spots on the e-board this year?
We actually do not at the moment, but there will be a few spots opening next semester, so stay tuned for those!
5. Do you have any events planned for this semester?
We’re still in the midst of planning, but we’re hoping to organize a Take Back the Night event, a professor roundtable event, film screenings, protests, and a variety of performances! I can’t reveal a lot, but rest assured you’ll be seeing a lot of FAN this year.
