Finals are coming up (joy!), and whether you’re ready or not, there’s still time for you to catch up on everything you’ve missed while you were doodling instead of taking notes. Since every class is different and no two people study the same way, why lock yourself up in the library (where you’ll inevitably get distracted)? Instead, try some of our favorite places to pump out those hyper–focused few hours of cramming!
The Atrium of Dana
Whether your studying for chem or geology, science can be challenging for everyone. Some people can only study solo, while others need to cram in groups. Dana is a great study spot because it offers places for both studying styles and never gets too crowded. Besides, something about being around all those scientific posters and projects inspires you to work on those practice problems even harder. For those who prefer to work in silence, each floor has secluded couches and chairs. The chem department even has its own student lounge, so channel your inner Marie Curie and get to it!
Congress Park
Got a sociology project to work on? Take advantage of the warming weather and head on over to Congress Park! It’s the perfectplace to do research because you’ll encounter people of all types and ages, especially when the weather’s nice. Park yourself near the carousel and get your people watching on! You might be surprised by what you see. Besides, who doesn’t love watching cute old couples strolling through the park (aww)?
Virgil’s Cafe
Need a cozy, quiet place to work on that history paper without the distraction of technology? Check out Virgil’s! The place is adorable and the use of distracting technology is frowned upon, in fact, phones and computers are prohibited here! So put that phone on silent; you’ll be shocked how easy it is to work when your attention isn’t being taken up by Words with Friends and that cute soccer player you’ve been texting lately.
Saratoga Public Library
I know what you’re thinking, why go to the local library when the campus lib is so much closer? While everyone knows that the Scrib’s is great, sometimes you need more than just the quiet floor to get through that pile of reading. Saratoga Public Library is small, but it’s quiet and free of the distractions that you’d find at Lucy Scribs (who just walked in? Do I know them?).
Skidmore and Saratoga are full of comfy, quiet and totally accessible places to cram for finals; all you have to do is look! When there are hundreds of people crowding the printers in the library, you’ll be glad you did.
