Need a Break from Midterms? Your Dreamworld Awaits

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Skidmore chapter.

Ever feel like you’re in a little bubble at Skidmore?  Not only is our campus and student body teeny-tiny, downtown Saratoga isn’t so extensive either.  While we love it for its charm and welcoming attitude, sometimes we just need an escape, right?  Especially when midterms roll around.

Stress no more!  Beyond Broadway, Saratoga has a “secret garden” of its own–I say “secret” because, from my experience, very few people seem to know about it.  It’s called Yaddo, an estate donated from husband to wife and then to the public in the early 1900s.  The estate has acres of land, most of which are maintained as gardens free to the public.  The mansion sits up on a hill, used now as an artists’ retreat.

So, whether you’re looking for a romantic walk, or just a break from studying, take a stroll through Yaddo’s gardens.  Located on Union Avenue, Yaddo is not too far but just far enough to feel like you’re “getting away” for a little while.
