Valentine’s Day Activities for the Single Ladies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Skidmore chapter.

Valentine’s Day for the girl sans-boyfriend often feels lonely, uninspired, and downright depressed, with dreams of bouquets of roses never fulfilled, that special someone unable to be there, or bitterness towards girls with that perfect date. Despite these negative sentiments towards the amorous holiday, Saratoga Springs offers many opportunities for girls to reconnect with their girlfriends, instead of focusing on the lack of love from the opposite sex. So instead of sitting at home in your pajamas with sour thoughts to keep you company, get out onto Broadway and enjoy the day with your friends with these suggestions of things to do:

• Stop into Mrs. London’s for a sweet treat. The patisserie offers a wide selection of scrumptious looking
desserts. Instead of waiting for a guy to bring you something sweet on Valentine’s Day, drop into the bakery with some girlfriends and treat yourself to a Chocolate Bombe or something equally delicious.

• Take a spin around the Saratoga Springs Ice Rink on Weibel Avenue with some of the girls. Who needs a guy to spin you around until you’re dizzy? And when you fall on your tush, you won’t feel embarrassed about not looking slick with a bunch of your girlfriends around rather than that guy you’re trying to impress.

Cook a meal at home with some friends. Nothing’s more fun than pitching in together, setting the table, and lighting some candles for a “romantic” dinner with the girls. Even if some of your friends have boyfriends, you can still arrange a dinner date with your taken friends for a night around Valentine’s Day in order to celebrate.

Paint pottery at Creative Sparks on Phila Street. Walk in and let your artistic side out! Channel your frustration with not having a date into something positive. The selection of items to decorate is extensive
—ranging from bowls to mermaids. Just don’t forget to pick up your piece a few days later after it’s been fired!

• Treat yourself to a mineral bath at the Roosevelt Spa in SPAC. Get some serious R&R while doing something exclusively Saratogian. Not only do you get your own room, you get a personal attendant, all for the ridiculously
low price of $25. If none of the other suggestions work, this will definitely get your mind off being alone on Valentine’s Day!
