My long-lived dream to study abroad in Spain began when I saw the classic Disney film The Cheetah Girls 2. I was only in Kindergarten, but I knew that one day, I had to be dancing in the streets of Barcelona.Â
Â
Finally, this dream is coming true. I am extremely excited to announce that I will be spending the fall at SLU Madrid. Words do not suffice to explain how stoked I am to explore the streets of Spain and immerse in the Spanish language and culture. Along with this excitement looms an overwhelming fear of missing out— namely, FOMO about missing an opportunity to make my voice heard.Â
Â
I hope I am not alone in the concern to vote in the November 2020 election while studying abroad. According to the Saint Louis County Board of Elections, registered voters in the United States can vote from anywhere by requesting an absentee ballot from the state of your voter’s registration. If your absentee ballot doesn’t arrive in time, have no fear! You can vote using this back-up Federal Write-In Absentee ballot and send it in before the election.
Â
I highly encourage all students to both register to vote and exercise this right, no matter where we are. Let’s take the advice of the Cheetah Girls and “Step Up!” For even more helpful information and tips, please read this University News article!
