Anxiety Attack

By: Kate Spear

My hand grabs at the chest

I feel the drum of my heart accelerating

The longer I listen the faster it goes

Boom boom

It must be about to burst

My fingers curl around my skin,

Nail indentations leave their mark

I feel the heartbeat in my throat

I try to swallow to have it disappear,

But it just gets stuck.

Bloodshot eyes drip salty tears

My mouth is left agape

My breathing can’t be controlled

I gasp but somehow can’t calm down

The air is thin

My body is shaky

I can’t control anything

The world is big

I am so small

So helpless
