As a Freshman, it can be hard to come out of your shell. You are in a brand new place, with brand new people, and you probably just want to get through the day without falling on your face. Ryan however, seems to not have an issue with any of that. He is one of the most funny, friendly, outgoing Freshmen at Saint Mike’s. Plus, his hair is always on point. HC: Why did you choose SMC?Â
RH: At first, the music minister at my home parish told me about Saint Mike’s. I decided I would come for a visit, and when I did, St. Mike’s made it to one of my top schools. The community aspect is great here and I believed it would be the right fit for me. I am also very active in helping others, community service, and St Mikes offers many opportunities to do those things.
HC: What would you say to seniors in high school thinking about attending Saint Mike’s next year?
RH: To seniors in high school thinking about coming to St Mike’s, I would tell them not to cross St Mikes off their list unless they know for sure it isn’t for them. St Mike’s isn’t just a college; it’s a community! Everyone is so accepting and inviting; there is no clear distinction between freshmen and seniors. What I mean by this is that you will have friends in all classes, not just your class.
HC: What is your favorite thing about Saint Mike’s?
RH: I love the community aspect and I also love the size. It’s small enough to get to know your professors on a more personal basis, and not too large to be overwhelming. You can develop relationships with faculty, staff, and other students more easily.
HC: What is your favorite spot on campus?
RH: My favorite spot on campus is the Dion Family and Student center. Einstein Bagels is great and there are plenty of spaces to study. When you need a break, you can grab a paddle and play ping pong, you can grab a poolstick and play pool, or you can grab a coffee and a bagel. It is also a great place to hang out with and meet new people. Dion is where I met most of my really good friends on campus!
HC: Do you have any hobbies?
RH: I play violin, kick a soccer ball around/ toss frisbeee/ play basketball with friends!
HC: Campus Involvement?
RH: LEAP Team, Liturgical Ensemble, Little Brother Little Sister program through MOVE.
HC: Role Model(s)?
RH: My parents are and always will be my role models. They have been there for me through thick and thin, through the good times and the bad, through the triumphs and defeats, always supporting me.
