Wondering what to listen to this holiday season? We listened to this year’s Christmas CDs and here are three we think you should check out!
For the Pop Queen or King: CeeLo’s Magic Moment – Cee Lo Green
Want a new twist on Christmas Carols mixed with standards and fabulous duets? Well, CeeLo’s Magic Moment could be this year’s Christmas hit! If you’re like my friend Andrea, you may be wondering why Cee Lo Green has a Christmas album. Let me tell you that this album rocks!
Remember the acapella group Straight No Chaser? The group does an awesome rendition of “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch” with Cee Lo, who not only sings the song, but uses spoken word to tell the story of the Grinch who stole Christmas. Love the song, “Baby, It’s Cold Outside?” Well, super diva Christina Aguilera performs track number two with Cee Lo.
There are also original Christmas songs on the album. “Run Rudolph Run” sits on the back-half of the album and seems to be pulled straight out of a 50’s jukebox. The upbeat rhythm will get anyone moving, even the Grinch.
Need a good gift for White Elephant that everyone will want? This could be the ticket to a smiling face.
For the Country Crooner: On This Winter’s Night – Lady Antebellum
Lady Antebellum may be country, but don’t expect too much twang from this album. On This Winter Night is a complete album of all the best Christmas tunes. They perform covers of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You” and “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” in addition to old classics “The First Noel” and “Silver Bells.”
The title song “On This Winter’s Night” is a slow serenade by the male lead singer, Charles Kelley, which sings of counting your blessings and remembrance. It’s a beautiful song, but not your typical Christmas song.
This album is for those who like more mellow Christmas music and want to be impressed by beautiful harmonies. It could make a great stocking stuffer for moms who are less than thrilled by your love of dub step!
For the Singer-Songwriter: A Very Merri Perri Christmas – Christina Perri
This album is short, sweet, and full of originals in true Christina Perri. The sadness of her hits like “Jar of Hearts” are left behind in this album of just 6 songs. Perhaps the most interesting song on the album is “Ave Maria,” a rendition of the well-known song done with a guitar.
One of her originals is “Merry Christmas Darling,” a special serenade to a loved one. Think of it as a combination of “All I Want for Christmas is You” and “My Only Wish (This Year),” but with out the electro-pop background. Similar to the Lady Antebellum album, Perri’s music will be bearable by your parents even if your singing voice isn’t.
This album is great for your girlfriends. Perri’s songs will never go out of style and because it’s Perri’s first Christmas album it could be a collectible one day.
