Hodson and Townhouse Living
By Gabbi Hall

If you are a rising senior, you expect to live in a townhouse. Juniors, you might be hoping to sneak your way in as well. To be at the center of the social hub, you’ll strive to be living in the 300’s. If you are looking to be in a more quiet area, the “retirement community” known as the 400’s townhouses could be your location of choice. No matter where you end up, here is what you need to know about townhouse living:

1. Living in apartment-style housing is great, but make sure that you choose people to live with that will respect your lifestyle.
2. The 200’s, 300’s and 400’s have single rooms. The 100’s townhouses have double rooms. Hodson has single rooms and all the same amenities of townhouses with the benefit of a key card system to get in the building for extra security.
3. Most students in townhouses or Hodson are on limited meal plans and get 40 swipes a semester. You can still opt into an unlimited meal plan if you don’t want to cook for yourself.
4. Come up with a chore schedule or wheel. It keeps everyone accountable for keeping the house clean and organized.
5. You’ll be in the “wet” part of campus meaning that the 21 and over crowd can drink there. You need to decide as a house who you will allow to drink there and if you want to host parties.
6. Lock your doors. Most of us feel very safe on campus, but historically there have been break-ins. Make sure to hide your valuables and lock your doors. Also, make sure your housemates don’t let strangers in the house.

Living in Linnehan
By Cara Chapman

Students looking for a quiet, quirky living space should check out Linnehan Hall. Located on North Campus, Linnehan sits amidst a suburban neighborhood and other dorm buildings, giving it the feeling of neighborhood living. Commuting between North and Main Campus creates a separation of home and work that can be very comforting. If you want to make Linnehan your home next semester, here are some things you need to know:

1. Linnehan is located across the street from Sloane, St. Michael’s alternative dining hall, and Purtill Hall, which hosts Turtle Underground, giving residents access to good food and good music without the hassle of a bus ride.
2. The shuttle comes every half hour, on the 15 and the 45. While it may seem restricting to live based on a schedule, having to incorporate travel time forces you to plan out your days better and ultimately be more productive with your time.
3. The shuttle drivers, in particular Jim and Dragon, are awesome. Jim knows everyone’s name within the first month and Dragon loves to strike up a conversation with anyone.
4. Bagels, cream cheese and orange juice are delivered every morning for residents who cannot make it to Alliot for breakfast.
5. Linnehan is equipped with its own kitchen, for residents who wish to experiment with baking and cooking, as well as a computer lab. There is also a very nice lounge upstairs complete with a flat screen TV and furniture.
6. It tends to get a little warm in Linnehan during the winter, so be sure you’re willing to master temperature control once you’re here and know that you can file work orders if you have issues with the heat.
7. For those who love the outdoors and exercise, Linnehan is surrounded by great roads for running, is walking distance from tennis courts and a rugby field, and is located across the street from nature trails.
