Meet this week’s campus celebrity, Jake Jarecki! Jake is a sophomore from Monroe, CT who is studying Business. Read on to learn about campus’ resident model!
1. What are you involved in on campus?
I am involved in Green Up, VITA, Men’s Varsity Cross-Country team, Movie Club, Common Ground, MOVE, Penguin Plunge, Founder’s Society, I’m a tour guide and I am applying for MOVE extended service and the DREAM program! Wish me luck! In my free time I enjoy running and working out, reading history books and drinking tea while watching Mad Men!! I hope to one day have a girlfriend…HA!
2. What do you like to do with your friends?
One of my favorite activities that I enjoy doing with my friends is a tie between going down to Burlington or going for a run/swim. I’m pretty much game for anything though! The great thing about me is that I’m not really picky! I love to try new things!
3. What do you want to do with you future?
I hope to one day get my Ph.D. in a field that interests me such as history, sociology or business! (eventually…is the key word! haha) I hope to become an Advertising executive in the future and make a career from the whole Business/marketing world in NYC. I live fairly close to New York, so it’s really quite convenient for me! Think Mad Men’s Don Draper! I hope to be the 21st century equivalent of him when I’m older! I’m not 100% certain what exactly the future holds for me at this point; but does anyone really know for sure? I guess I will find out.
4. We hear you’re a model… can you tell us about it?
Yes! I am! I am signed with a fashion marketing company called “Plitzs” and I also work with another company called “Xist: model & talent” who I signed on with last year after first being a part of a company called Interface the year prior. I’ve always secretly wanted to be famous so I guess this was a great way to start! I’ve walked down runways and been on TV and Movie sets! How cool is that?!?! It really is exciting work and I would love to go further in this direction, but I want to put my education first. Without an education I am nothing. You always need a plan B. We will see what happens! Stay tuned!
5. Do you have any advice for first year students?
I was so lost as a first year student. If there is one piece of advice that I could make known it’s to put your education first! You came to college to get a degree, don’t lose sight. Never stray too far from the goal by partying too much or making multiple extra-curricular commitments that you can’t keep! I used to be there but I got back on course again! Try and keep your promises! You own it to yourself! I’d also like to add that although you are working towards a Bachelor’s degree you are also striving to make yourself better. Always take part and participate in “something” (it could be anything) that ultimately betters yourself for the future! You are worth it!
6. Anything else you want to add?
Education is 10x more fun when you are studying something that you like! Now that my first year is over I can dive in to things that interest me more such as my Major’s topic! I’m a Business Administration major with a concentration in Marketing; I’m also a double minor in Sociology and Global Studies! College has allowed me to study in depth- the topics and materials that really spark my imagination! I’m sure a lot of people can agree with me on that one! If there is one thing I know for sure right now it’s that I will go far with my Bachelor’s Degree from St. Mike’s!
