She’s a sloth lover, she’s a Global AIDS activist, and she’s this week’s Campus Celebrity. It’s the one and only Meaghan Diffenderfer!

 

What are you involved in at Saint Mike’s?

I’m involved in SGAC (Student Global Aids Campaign), Drama club (and the musical theatre group and improv group), ambassador housing, and Chorale.

 

What got you interested in SGAC?

The summer between by junior and senior year of high school, I went to South Africa and we spent a day at an AIDS orphanage and I realized that i hated AIDS (as most people do) and decided I would be a “house mother”, a volunteer that helps take care of the orphans after college. Then last year on a whim I went to the first SGAC meeting and realized (surprise!) this was something I was really passionate about still.

 

What else are you hoping to accomplish with SGAC?

I’ve been thinking about getting an SGAC chapter at my high school; I think it would be cool to make SGAC a larger organization that more people know about.

 

Rumor has it.. you love sloths so what’s that all about?

So yeah I’ve gotten a reputation for being a crazy sloth lady but really they’re my second favorite animals after dinosaurs. I also think I got the reputation because everyone and their mother posted pictures on my Facebook wall of them last year. But like swaddled sloths are the cutest and no one can deny it.

 

Have any big life plans in store?

As for big life plans…hmmm. I would love to spend time living/working in the Middle East. I also want to become an opera singer. In short end the worlds conflicts and sing while doing so. Maybe did a nice goat farmer to settle down with to please my mother. Or become a Disney princess. Keeping my options open.

Lauren Mazzoleni is a junior at Saint Michael's College where she majors in Digital Arts, Media Studies, and Journalism and minors in Psychology. Lauren and Alexandra Brenock are the two campus correspondents for Saint Michael's HC Branch. At Saint Michael's, she is a student blogger, a tour guide, and a disc jockey at WWPV 88.7 FM. Many of her friends would say that when she is not busy attending her classes or working on HC articles, you could find her watching many of the shows she always DVRs (Glee, Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, etc), shopping on Church Street in downtown Burlington, and hanging out with her friends from Saint Michael's and from her hometown in NH.
