This group is one of my personal favorites around campus, whether it’s their hilarious skits and performances or their sweet harmonies, they will certainly not disappoint! Meet this week’s Campus Celebrities, Mike Check!
1.) What’s your favorite part about being in Mike Check?
DG: “The bitches.”
JT: “I enjoy the camaraderie.”
JG: “Homoerotic tension.”
TN: “The inside jokes!”
RB: “Their favorite part about being in Mike Check is me.”
BC: “The extracurricular activities, like D&D (Dungeons & Dragons).”
MW: “I’m not comfortable enough to sing in the shower, so this is a comfort for me to be able to just sing with everyone here.”
PS: “I like being able to walk around campus and see you guys!” (*all sobbing*)
2.) How do you handle all of the fangirls?
DG: “Or fanboys? …a 39.5ft pole.”
All: “One Friday at a time.”
LE: “…With my enormous penis.”
TN: “By saying “Thank you, I had a lot of fun, I’m so glad you could make it.” Just like what I tell everyone at our concerts.”
HF: “Singing ‘Hallelujah’.”
BC: “I like to get up early and make them breakfast.”
3.) First years, were you nervous or intimidated by the audition process?
JS: “I was hooked from the very beginning!”
PS: “…No comment.”
CM: “It was an interesting experience…we’re still here though!”
4.) Do you have a favorite song that you sing?
LE: “‘Enormous Penis’.”
JG: “‘Hallelujah’.”
JT: “‘1812 overture’ (laughs).”
HF: “‘Ignition’ because we brought it back while performing on Church Street.”
PS: “‘Ignition’, it’s awesome!”
BL: “I miss ‘Wagon Wheel.’”
MW: “’It’s Alright’ because I can dance.”
5.) Seniors, what are you going to miss most about the group?
LE: “The thing I’m gonna miss the most about Mike Check is watching it grow. Every year there’s always been a really big influx of great guys to add to the group, every guy that graduates is replaced by another really great guy. It’s a steadily growing family, kinda like a brotherhood or fellowship.”
JG: “It’s the #1 thing I WILL miss about SMC. I’ve been in MC all four years I’ve been here, and I’ve enjoyed every second of it. The highs are way better than the lows, and there’s a lot of weird stuff that happens, but this is a group of my closest friends on campus and it’s gonna be really sad to go.” (*simultaneous ‘Awwww!’)
JT: “For me, I’m gonna miss being talked over by everybody else. But mostly I’m going to miss the laughter and (*everybody talks over him*) the inside jokes, especially the ones about Belgium.”
6.) Any big plans for the semester that you can fill me in on?
JS: “The bitches.”
LE: “Bringing back do-wop.”
JG: “Hopefully recording a CD this semester, and trying to get more on campus gigs and off campus gigs.”
JT: “I’m going to fill my last months with laughter.”
7.) Will you sing to me?
All: “Sure!”
And they did, and it was magical. They sang, ‘I Want It That Way’ by The Backstreet Boys in the stairwell and it was fantastic as always!
