Suggestions for Midterm SZN

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMCVT chapter.

It’s weird to say that we’re already among midterm season of the spring semester. It feels like we just got back and settled into campus, and the cold weather and snow doesn’t really feel like “spring either.” Nonetheless, students are getting swamped in classes with projects, exams, essays, and busy work assignments. Trying to manage time between schoolwork, a social life, and time time to relax feels impossible these days.

For me, I’ve been trying my best to come up with daily routines to lower stress levels. If I have a plan to conquer the day, my mindset switches from stressed to planning to be productive.

Here of some examples of what I have been doing:

  • Go to the library and grind right when you get out of class. At this time, your mind is still in the school-mindset. If I go back to my room, the  motivation to do any school work disappears, and all I want to do is nap or watch The Office.

  • Exercise! I’ve been scheduling in a few nightly workouts per week. This way, I make myself get my necessary schoolwork done in the afternoon and can look forward to “feeling fit” later that day.

  • Do not procrastinate! Yes, this is much easier said than done, but with midterm season among us, it’s really difficult to only have one “study sesh” the night before test day. You are better off to spread out studying. Not only will this leave you more prepared for the exams themselves, but stress levels will go down as well.

  • Try and get your 8 hours of sleep. I find that I am most productive on a given weekday if I feel well-rested and ready to take on the day. If unable to get these 8 hours, chug coffee. That works too.

  • Finally, believe in yourself. YOU CAN DO IT! Midterm season is tough, but if you grind, you will survive and feel accomplished after.

Good luck ladies!
