When I came to college, I never considered the possibility of going on a Catholic retreat. The closest I’ve been to a church is when I was baptized and since then I’ve been back a handle full of times. So, when I heard about LEAP, a catholic based retreat, I was hesitant.
All my friends have been on LEAP have come back gushing about how much fun it was and all the friends they made during their three-day weekend. After hearing all the good things about what they had experienced, my mind started to churn over the idea more and more. I love meeting new people and putting myself out of my comfort zone, and feeling more at center with myself so I figured, why the hell not!
I have never been so glad to have taken a leap of faith in my life because I came back from last weekend with so many new realizations and friends. LEAP is almost a secretive weekend away from campus where the rectors of the group coordinate the activities and there are no clocks to keep time with, it’s all about who you’re with. There are some talks that students give and then some secret activities that I can’t tell you about, but can ensure you do want to know!
Having the opportunity to get off campus and get back to my real self was just what I needed and I think for anyone that has been on the retreat can agree that coming back from LEAP gives you a new sense of self. Throughout the entire weekend you’re there for yourself and to become more in touch with the Saint Michael’s community. I highly recommend it if you’re religious, not religious, feel like going or if you’re on the fence. Sometimes taking a leap of faith can be the best thing you can do.
