Many are pessimistic when February rolls around because of this poorly marketed and often cheesy holiday, but Valentine’s Day has consistently been in my top five favorite holidays of the year. It should not be viewed as a holiday just for people in relationships, but a day for you to celebrate all the people in your life who you love.
1.Everyone Likes Getting Valentines/Galentines
If anyone tells you that they do not like getting things for Valentine’s Day, they are LYING to you. Not a single person on this planet would be made unhappy by receiving some candy or a nice card expressing what they mean to you. Even if you don’t have a significant other to spoil on the 14th, it is important to let your friends know that they are important to you, and what better time to do that than on a really cute holiday?
Handmaking Galentine’s/Valentine’s Day cards is so relaxing if you’re someone who has a creative streak (I’m talking glue sticks, scissors, and a lot of construction paper). If you’re not artsy, baking or putting together a little bag of candy to show your affection is just as sweet! If you’re on a budget and/or crunched for time, shooting your loved ones a text expressing your appreciation for them or a quick note to slide under their door or in their backpack will not go unnoticed or unappreciated. It’s important to note that extravagance is not a requirement of showing someone that they are important to you.

2. How Often Do You Actually Express Your Love for Your Friends?
Birthdays and moments of achievement are the only times I can think of where I actively reach out to the people that I love to express my appreciation for their presence in my life. It is the ultimate downfall of friendships due to busy schedules and the endlessness of to-do lists that we do not express our fondness for our friends as much as we should. There are days, weeks, months that we go without reminding our friends and family of our appreciation for the roles they play in our lives. Even though we all express affection in different ways, it makes EVERYONE feel just a little more loved to hear how much they mean to us.
3. The World Needs More Love
Amongst the pandemic and other points of tension around the globe, what we say and do for the people around us matters more than ever. Separated by masks or miles, it remains essential for us to maintain positive relationships with the people who mean the most to us, from significant others to childhood friends. Treating everyone from family to the person who delivers your mail with appreciation for the role they play in our life means more now than ever.
