Abby Gschiel ’18

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Smith chapter.

Name: Abigail Gschiel (I go by Abby most of the time)

Preferred pronouns: She/Her

Year: 2018

House: Jordan

Major: Probably going to be psychology or SWG, or both, or a minor in one or the other

Hometown: “Tiny town” Tonasket Washington (it’s not really called that, it’s just Tonasket, WA, but the town is super small- 1,000 people)

What is your favorite thing about Smith: I really love how open everyone is and how accepting people are here. In my hometown, everyone is very closed-minded and it was hard for me to feel a sense of belonging.

Favorite place you have traveled: South Korea! I’m a huge KPop fan but I also really enjoy the culture of Korea. I’m interested in studying abroad there.

Favorite book: The Fault in Our Stars and Looking For Alaska. Both are by John Green and both are so amazing. I can’t choose between the two. Spoiler alert: If you haven’t read them and want to, you will cry. A lot.

Something on your bucket list: I want to travel into space! (I think that would be so cool!)

Extracurricular activities: I played tennis in high school and rode my horse. I really want to keep playing tennis while I’m here though. I also used to play basketball.

Favorite TV shows: Sherlock, How I Met Your Mother, and Friends. I also love The L Word and Orange is the New Black.

Guilty pleasure: One Direction

Favorite Smith memory: Going to see The Nightmare Before Christmas with my friends in Jordan House

Something people don’t know about you: I’m scared of the dark and I sleep with a night-light. I am not ashamed to be 19 years old and still doing this.

Most played song on iTunes: “I Wanna Get Better” by Against the Current (cover of the original)

Ideal dinner date (with an historical figure): I want to eat dinner with Abraham Lincoln.
