So you have snatched your bid and sprinted home to your new sisters, who have tossed a jersey over your head and hugged you all the way into your new sisterhood. Now what? I’m talking about sorority life, and one important thing to remember about SMU srat life is the ever-present practice of “Jersey Days.” Once a week, girls from sororities whip out their letters for the day. If you are a part of the new pledge class, this practice probably seems a little daunting to you. How are you supposed to style it? Once you get past jeans, how do you keep them from looking boring?
Well here we come with the solution. We’ve got options for every style and every season. These can work for any sorority girl, and we have four jerseys here as examples. Be sure to flaunt those letters and your cute outfit proudly!
Classy Chic
The “golden key” to this adorable outfit is a touch of class. The navy stripe in these white Gap jeans goes perfectly with the sea blue of Kappa Kappa Gamma (but it covers Pi Phi, DG and Tri Delta too). And this gray cotton jacket with more dark blue detailing from Mango adds a touch of polish. Finish this look off with Kate Spade black and nude rhinestone heels and diamond stud earrings. The heels are more comfortable than they look, I promise, and you’ll be getting compliments ALL DAY. To make this work for your chapter, match the colors to the pant stripe and bring that in with a blazer. Trés chic!
Springtime Sweetness
You can be absolutely over the moon for this look. This outfit is perfect if your sorority has colors that are bright and colorful, and especially if they are a bit hard to match. Case in point: this outfit for Gamma Phi Beta. GPhi’s colors are technically brown and mode, but the Alpha Xi chapter here at SMU opted for the colors of pink and gold. This floral skirt from H&M easily pulls in the pink from the jersey. This technique is very simple to imitate- take the dominate color of your jersey, and find a patterned skirt that incorporates it. The gold Kate Spade shoes bring in the other color. This look is flirty and cute, and will definitely make you a standout from all of the jeans.
Sass and Sassier
This look is so Delta Gamma with its nautical accessories, but summertime style can be rocked for any chapter. The high waisted American Apparel shorts are both comfortable and bold. Not only do they go with the bronze, pink and blue of Delta Gamma girls, but they can go with any chapter colors. The rope belt and the Kate Spade sandals anchor the style to its theme.Â
Bold and Brazen
Who doesn’t want to stand out from the crowd? Alpha Chi red matches perfectly with these red Abercrombie & Fitch jeans. SMU’s chapter opted for their jersey to match our school colors rather than AXO red and green, so this look won’t make you too Christmas-y. To make it work for your sorority, match your jersey to a pair of colored jeans. This is a really in look for this season. Tuck the pants into some knee high suede black boots and you will be good to go. We accessorized with an Hermès bracelet and Kate Spade blue sparkle earrings.
Take these looks and put your own spin on it! We have options for every season, just match it to your colors. Maybe add some pearls- “pretty in pearls, everyone loves a sorority girl-” or use your own unique jewelry. Showcase your chapter with your best style and have fun!
