As another year begins, Night at the Club is a hallowed tradition for all SMU freshman. The Class of 2020 was no exception. The basketball courts of Dedman Rec were packed with everyone checking out the latest scoop. Here are some recommendations on what clubs to join this year.

1. Mustang Heroes

Mustang Heroes is the biggest service organization on campus, and it is the perfect way to get tapped into the community. They also have special speakers come in and the best part is that you get to pick your cause! The variety of trips make it perfect to tap into Dallas at your convenience. If you’re looking for an organization that will make sure you’re giving back to a cause close to your heart, Mustang Heroes is for you!

2. Program Council

Program Council is in charge of all things party on campus. If you see any big event that is super fun and Dallas Hall Lawn is decked out, you know that Program Council is probably behind it. If you’ve ever found yourself wanting to help plan a big campus event like concerts (Dallas City Limits anyone?) or Sing Song, this is the organization for you!

3. Honor Council

The governing body on campus for all things honor code, this is what to join if you want to be involved in holding your peers accountable for academic integrity. Honor Council is a great way to interact with others to form the moral center of campus.

4. Student Senate

SMU’s overall governing body, Student Senate can be considered the heart and soul of all things that are happening at SMU. The variety of committees means that you can tailor your involvement to what interests you the most. If you ever find yourself wanting to be involved in any government-related organization, Student Senate is the place to start to get your voice heard on campus.

5. Mustang Fitness 

We all know the fears of the “freshman 15!” Mustang Fitness is not only focused on getting rid of those extra pounds that you fear, but also getting you into the best shape possible. This is the club to join if you want stay in shape through a host of different workout styles!

Her Campus is the leading on-campus web magazine for all things college girl! HC is the best organization on campus for tips on anything that you might be going through in your life. Talk about #relatable! Consider joining the Her Campus SMU staff!

Trina is a first year at Southern Methodist University, majoring in Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. Originally from Wisconsin, she moved to Plano, Texas for high school, where the sweet tea convinced her that the South was her home for the rest of her life!
