Ajee Montes is not your typical SMU Football Player. This Southern California native spends his spare time pursuing a career in music as well as co-creating an iPhone app. This app, called “What’s Going Down,” informs its users on what is happening in both the Dallas and SMU nightlife and was recently released to the public. He also owns two pug puppies named Wilfred and Alfred. So, as a student, athlete, musical artist, pet owner and app founder how does he have free time? Her Campus found out with a personal interview.Â
Why did you decide you wanted to play football at SMU?
Honestly, it was fate. It was like, everything just fell into place and SMU felt like the right decision to make. Dallas is an amazing city and SMU is a great school to go to for classes too. Plus, the girls are especially aesthetically pleasing here. What is your favorite part about being on the football team? I like the brotherly bond I have with my teammates, I know they’ll always be there for me, and are always down to have a good time.
How do you balance all of your extra-curricular activities and schoolwork?
Well it’s easy, I don’t sleep. Haha. 50 Cent once said “Sleep is for the broke.”
When did you start making music, and how has it changed your life?
I’ve always been making music, but nothing too serious. But now it’s serious, and it’s changed my life drastically. The first time anyone recognized me on campus just for my music was amazing. I can’t wait for it to happen more often.
What exactly is the app “What’s Going Down” and who is it meant for?
The app WGD is for young adults in cities who are looking for something to do any given night. We have everything from greek-life parties, to concerts, to sporting events and house parties. We appeal to all sorts of people, and the content is user-generated so everyone’s events can get on there.
What inspired you to make “What’s Going Down”?
People would always hit me up to see what was going on at night, so Deion Sanders Jr. and I decided that we could make an app and help people find ‘what’s going down’. The rest is (hopefully) history.
What do you want to do after you graduate?
I want to play football, make music, and find that someone special to share it with.
Where do you hope to see yourself in ten years?
In a new Bugatti.
