Getting the flu during school can throw a major wrench in your plans. Whether you’re trying to get a 4.0 or meet new people, it sucks to be sitting around and feeling sick. It’s ten times worse when you realize how far behind you’re getting in school. Here’s how I got through the flu, and you can too, coming out on top.

  1. Make a plan: Even though you’re feeling sick, as soon as you’re feeling up to it, you should make a list of all the things you should do, from most important to least important, so when you’re feeling better you can knock it all out.
  2. Talk to your professors: Let them know you’re sick, so they’ll be more likely to give you the benefit of the doubt in the future if you need help or extra time.
  3. Read your textbooks: If there’s ever a time to read your textbook, it’s when you’re missing class. Even if you don’t understand everything 100%, it’s going to give you a leg up when you get back to class.
  4. Ask for notes: Ask your friends in class early. It usually takes a couple asks to get them to send the notes you need, so ask before you actually need them. Buy your friends coffee and ask them any questions you need to.
  5. Hydrate and eat: Whether it’s crackers and sprite, or Gatorade, or Pedialyte. Even though you might not feel like it, it’s going to make you feel better once you’re not sick, which means you can get back to whatever you’re doing ten times sooner.

Go to the doctor, take your medicine, and get better. Get back to school as soon as you can and work hard so you can get the 4.0.
