An Open Letter To the Girl Who is Lost

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMU chapter.

To the girl who is lost:

First, it is not your fault. Do not think that. You are okay.

It is okay. You are not alone. We have all been there or will be there. I was there not too long ago. Breathe.

This game (called life) is so hard. Nobody ever aces the game, but you are strong. You can make it through this game and strive. You will be okay.

Life got busy, and you got overwhelmed. You lost yourself in the midst of a storm. Eventually, things began to fall. You started to do things you never did before. Now you are stuck and do not know how to get back; I get it.

I know you want to find your place, as do we all. Do not put too much pressure on yourself to find the perfect home or count the days until you find your niche.

You resent various things in your life, and you are not alone in that. We all do.

You can make it through. You are so much stronger than what you give yourself credit for.

If you are crying, wipe the tears from your face. Listen to Beyoncé. The tears you are shedding or have shed are when you are the most unhappy, fo now, think positive. Find the rainbow after the storm.

Do not feel like this is the end because it isn’t. You have many more years ahead of you. You will find that perfect job, perfect partner, and perfect house when you are ready. You may feel ready now, but there is another plan waiting.

If you think that your family does not love you right now, erase that thought. They love you, I promise. You may not believe me now, but they do.

Hold strong at your weakest moments. You were once strong, unstoppable, and confident. You can find your way back to that girl you once were. Be the fighter.

I must commend you, though. I commend you for smiling through the pain because that can be the hardest thing in the world. I commend you for not being the fragile girl that everyone expects you to be at the lowest points. You are so strong.

Live the life that makes you proud and that you can tell your kids about. Do not let this lost feeling consume you. A life that is not fulfilled or fun is not for you.

Ignore the bullies in your life. Hop through the obstacles and come out smiling.

You might be lost right now, but you will find your path. I promise you will find your niche. Nothing is easy in life, and that is why this game is so hard. You have beauty. You have strength. You will not only succeed but conquer.

You are a force to be reckoned with. Nobody can take you down. You’ve got this, girl!

This is not the end, but the beginning.

Sincerely,

A girl who was once lost
