When I chose to transfer to Sonoma State, I was lucky enough to have my friend Sasha help show me the ropes. Here, I talk with Sasha about her experiences here at SSU!
Her Campus: Hi Sasha! Why don’t you introduce yourself with your hometown, year, and major.
Sasha Hawley: Hey guys! I am Sasha :) I grew up in Santa Cruz. I am now a junior and an Early Childhood Studies Major.
HC: What did Sonoma State have that the other schools you applied to didn’t?
SH: Honestly I picked Sonoma State because of the amazing dorms.
HC: Why did you choose your major?
SH: I have always loved kids and wanted to learn about how they develop. I used to want to be a teacher, but then I have changed my mind and want to do something else with kids, maybe in hospitals or therapy.
HC: What have been your favorite classes so far?
SH: I have taken two Geology classes which were so much fun to take! Geology 105 and 110. 105 is all about dinosaurs and 110 is about natural disasters. I’m taking my major courses now and of course love those as well.
HC: Are you involved with any organizations on campus?
SH: Yes! I am in the Love Your Melon club, which is a club that sells apparel that helps support pediatric cancer. Â
HC: What drew you to Love Your Melon?
SH: First the kids. And then the fact that I get to promote an AMAZING organization that is helping find a cure for cancer. I also think joining a club is great because you get to make new friends.
HC: Where do you eventually want to end up living? Why?
SH: I have been trying to figure this out! Probably California, because who would leave this beautiful state? I know I want to be near my sisters so our kids will all be good friends and we can our lives together.
HC: What are some of your goals in life?
SH: Be healthy, happy and adventurous. I want to have a job and house and a beautiful family :)
HC: Any advice to people thinking of majoring in Early Childhood Studies?
SH: Do the reading. Study hard. You learn a lot and it might be repetitive but it’s because we need to know that stuff if we want to be good role models for kids.
HC: And, most importantly: favorite color?
SH: PURPLE. Always has been.
HC: Thanks for talking with me, Sasha!
SH: Of course!
